SIMPLE TRUTH (ALBUM 2008)
"A brutally honest songwriter and a clutch of deeply personal songs. Dunne has fearlessly chosen a deceptively simple format for the complex matter of self-revelation" IRISH TIMES
"Achingly beautiful and irresistible. Twelve songs with something to say about the world we live, and die, in. Now ain't that something ****"
"Simple Truth is one of my favourites of the year so far. A mixture of rocky, upbeat numbers and slower tracks; its heartfelt emotion, choppy beats and melodies catchier than the common cold made an instant connection with me"
THE IRISH WORLD
"The guitar-propelled music journeys down as many mean streets as the clever word play, and the diversity on tracks like Hurt by Love and Vacuum show off the album's many strengths"
"...catchy tunes as well as meaningful lyrics, an ideal combination...His eclectic musical taste shines throughout, form funky rhythms straight out of the Stevie Wonder songbook to lyrics that recall musical poets such as Neil Young and Thom Yorke"
I recorded this album with the very talented Paul Wilkinson (www.myspace.com/paulpilotmusic
) at Paul's studio in East London late 2007-2008.
Having done a lot of demoing and pre-production work with some other people, the songs were pretty much in shape from the get-go.
We started out aiming to make a very rootsy, acoustic guitar-driven album. Once we added the predictable drums, bass, guitars and a bit of brass, it just wasn't where we wanted it to be.
Out came the 808 drum machine, 80s synths, and fuzz pedals! These, coupled with some creative Protool-ing, plus some input from great musicians like Duke Special, Jamie Lawson, and my good wife Linnea, got us there.
Released on my own label in Apr 2008.
